With an elevation gain of around 2,000 meters, this trek is suitable for beginners and intermediate trekkers with a moderate level of fitness. While the trail itself isn’t overly strenuous, the reward at the end is absolutely breathtaking – Dodital Lake, a haven of tranquility nestled amidst verdant forests.

This trek isn\’t just about the destination; it\’s about the immersive experience. Breathe in the fresh mountain air, and listen to the symphony of waterfalls! Steeped in history, the trail also leads you past ancient temples, offering a glimpse into the region’s rich cultural heritage.

It’s not for everybody:

While we invite you on this journey, it’s important to clarify certain expectations. This is not a luxury trip. While you have the opportunity to take beautiful images and videos, you may not be documented on TV or made into a movie. Nature is beautiful but can also be unpredictable and unforgiving. Village life may look good in post cards but can also be boring and hard for some people. While you can see stars in the night sky, the darkness of the mountains can engulf you and can be scary for some people when they can’t see their own hands. So, come only if you are ready to take on challenges that the Mountains & Village life can throw at you, from time to time.

Best Time to Visit:

While this trek can be done most of the year and has two versions, the summer Dodital trek and the winter Dodital trek. Some people do both. But the monsoon period is best avoided. The ideal season would be March to June for the summer trek &October to December for the winter trek. There are favorable weather conditions and stunning visual during these periods.
Preparations for the winter treks for experienced adventurers are different and we recommend proper gear.

The Dodital Trek Itinerary: Connect with Nature

Day 1: Uttarkashi/Sangamchatti to Agoda Village:**
Today you start early at 7 am and travel 28 kms by a non ac bolero taxi. It takes an hour and a half to reach Agoda. Meet and greet the villagers. Get an intro with the kids at the local school.
The other option is to trek from Sangamchatti to Agoda on the first day. It’s a 5 km trek that has an inclination of around 1500 metres.It will take beginner trekkers around 3-4 hours. This easy trek will help you acclimatize to the mountains.
Stay at Agoda and enjoy the scenery on day 1.

Day 2: Agoda to Majhi:
The distance from Agoda to Majhi is around 11 km. The total estimated duration for beginners would be around 5-6 hours. The starting 2 km to Bebra is actually a decline where you meet a beautiful waterfall for a chilled bath. There is a steep incline when you begin from Bebra for a few kilometers. Halfway between Bebra and Majhi, there is a “Chatri”, after which the trek is very easy.

Remember to fill up your water bottles at Bebra, because you won’t get another waterfall for the next 6-7 kilometres.

.Day 3: Majhi- Dodital:

Exploring Dodital Lake and Surroundings:
Today, you cover a distance of around 5 km to reach the serene and mystical lake, the birthplace for Lord Ganesha. It’s time for prayers asking to be blessed for inspiration for what you want your life to be!

Day 4: Dodital Lake to Darwa Top and back:
Today, you have multiple options to trek around. You can go to Darwa top for a breathtaking view of the ice capped mountains. You can go further to Seema and then Hanuman Chatti. In any case, we come back to Dodital.

Day 5: Dodital to Agoda :
Today you cover 16 km to get back to the village life before you leave to get back for your onward destination.

Day 6/7: Immersive Village life: Connect with Nature:

This program is more than just a trek; it\’s a transformative experience. It\’s about challenging you physically, embracing a simpler way of life, and forging meaningful connections with a mountain community. In connecting with Nature, you leave the comfort zone and stepping into a world steeped in tradition, resilience, and breathtaking beauty. Getting There:

The gateway to reaching Uttarkashi can be either Haridwar or Dehradun:
* Nearest Airport: The Jolly Grant Airport (Dehradun) is the nearest airport. Uttarkashi is another 150 km of ghat roads that can be traveled by taxi or bus.
* Train Connectivity: The nearest railway stations are Dehradun and Rishikesh.
* Road Transportation: Uttarkashi is another 150 km of ghat roads from Dehradun and around 170 km from Rishikesh that can be traveled by taxi or bus. Here’s a detailed account of one of our treks by Sumant.

What to Pack:

It’s good to be prepared. Safety first is always a good idea. Create a packing list categorized by Clothing and footwear, Trekking essentials that include backpack, tent, sleeping bag, first-aid kit, and trekking poles, cameras, binoculars, and power banks.
So, prepare well and ask for help if you need it.

Grow Your Energy with Mutual Learning:

This trek also offers a unique opportunity for a mutual learning environment. You can volunteer to teach what you can to village children, fostering cultural exchange and opening doors to new opportunities for the younger generation.
